Home on the Farm: If Chickens Could Talk
by Lorene M. Burkhart

The book features a series of vignettes about her family’s farm life in Southern Indiana during the 1930s and 40s. The tales told in each of the 10 chapters range from nostalgic to fanciful. Some are funny, some are poignant, but all will appeal to anyone who has ever lived on a farm… or anyone who has wanted to live on a farm.

Burkhart Network Supports Indiana 4-H Foundation

Home on the Farm hit bookstands in November 2007 with a kickoff event hosted conjunction with the Indiana 4-H Foundation. Former Hoosier 4-H members Lorene McCormick Burkhart, Randall Tobias, Lieutenant Governor Becky Skillman, Superintendent of Public Instruction Dr. Suellen K. Reed (pictured left to right above) each spoke about their days and memories in Hoosier 4-H clubs throughout the state.

During the event Burkhart was presented with the Indiana 4-H Foundation Distinguished Alumni Award in recognition of her achievements in business, community leadership and philanthropy, and for her dedication and acknowledgement of the importance of Indiana 4-H in developing life skills significant to success.
